Disaster Risk Reduction Platform
In 2007 the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation approved Guidelines on Disaster Risk Reduction as a response to the priorities outlined in the Hyogo Framework for Action. These guidelines cover disaster risks emanating from natural hazards and reaffirm DRR as an important dimension of sustainable development. They underline the need to design sustainable programmes and projects taking into account all possible risks and hazards. The guidelines set three priorities:
- Selectively mainstream DRR within SDC's programmes and projects
- Implement targeted DRR programmes
- Support international DRR developments
The Guidelines are primarily aimed at SDC staff in Swiss Cooperation Offices and at SDC Headquarters, who manage both development and humanitarian programmes and partnerships with governments, civil society, communities and the private sector as well as international organisations and NGOs. They serve as guidelines for staff of SDC and of partner agencies operating on the basis of a SDC mandate.
